Taiko Drumming Classes

Keen to try some taiko drumming?

Whether you're interested becoming a taiko performer, broadening your horizons in music, dance, or the martial arts, or simply want to give the drums a go, our taiko classes are a great way to experience and learn the art of taiko drumming.

Tamashii offers Open Classes for the general public
on the first Saturday of every month.

When: The first Saturday of every month, 9:30a - 12:00p.
Where: The Rhythm Centre (Kelston / New Lynn)

Cost:

$10 per class for individuals
$15 per class for couples or mates
$20 per class for families

If you cannot make our upcoming Open Class, it may be possible for you to join in one of our regular team practice sessions. Availability depends on our rehearsal schedule and what our teacher plans to cover in the class. Contact us to learn more.

What to Bring

If you are unfamiliar with taiko drumming, be aware that it involves lots of movement.

Wear comfortable clothing that is suitable for good exercise, and bring water and your favorite snacks as well to keep you energized.

In cold weather, a thermos of hot tea or coffee and layered clothing are usually best. You may start the class cold, but you will be very warm after the first half-hour!

While there is no need to call us in advance, if you're bringing 3 or more people it helps us plan ahead.

You are welcome to join us for as many Open Classes as you'd like!

If you are keen to join us every week for taiko training after attending one of our Open Classes, please speak with our teacher to see whether space is available in our ongoing weekly classes.

For large groups, we also offer private workshops.
